Between the start of January and the end of March 1998, 15,000 hectares of land in Quezon and Rizal in Palawan, were affected by forest fires. Elsewhere, 200 ha of forest were burnt in Davao del Norte province on the island of Mindanao. In total, 54 families were made homeless1. No virgin forests were affected2.
