On 26 April 1989, the world's deadliest tornado struck the Manikganj district destroying around 90 percent of homes in 153 villages and severely damaging crops1. 80 000 people were left homeless and the towns of Saturia and Manikgank Sadar were levelled after being struck by the 1.6 km wide tornado2.
