M 4 Earthquake - June 1999, Azerbaijan
On 4 June 1999, an earthquake measuring 3.5 to 4 on the Richter scale struck the central regions of Azerbaijan at 14:30 local time. The epicentre was between the three small towns of Agdash (240 km west of the capital Baku), Geokchai and Ujar.
In the Agdash district (which was the epicentre of the earthquake) moderate to severe damage was recorded. In addition, there was damage in the neighbouring districts of Zardab, Ujar and Kurdemir and the two nearby cities of Yevlakh and Sheki.
